Design, Fabrication and Installation on a ship unloader boom for Alcoa. The ship unloader boom is used to unload Bauxite from the transport ship for the Port Henry Aluminium Smelter.
The fabrication was managed under very stringent QC systems as it was critical for the new Boom be to be a “first time through” installation as the installation window did not facilitate for any delay due to strict shipping operations. This Boom was fabricated in accordance with the requirements of AS1554 part 1 category SP with the addition of Alcoa welding technical standards in that all full strength butt welds (FSBW) were to satisfy either RT or UT inspection, with all remaining weld configurations to satisfy MP inspection. This project was successfully delivered ahead of time.
